Historical Journey of Amels Shipyard

Amels, situated in Vlissingen, The Netherlands, has been an integral part of the Damen Group since 1991. Founded in 1918, it wasn't until the launch of the 48m Lady Georgina (formerly Katalina) in 1982 that Amels firmly established itself in the yachting community. Over time, Amels has earned a stellar reputation for crafting exceptional custom-built superyachts with a diverse range of models. Their state-of-the-art facility, featuring 204m and 145m dry docks, provides direct access to the North Sea.

In 2005, Amels achieved a significant milestone by introducing the Amels Limited Editions range. This groundbreaking concept bridged the gap between custom and semi-custom yachts. All Amels Limited Edition yachts are constructed on a proven platform, assuring owners of tested technology and design. This approach allows owners full control over exterior aesthetics and interior layout, resulting in each Limited Editions yacht being a unique masterpiece. Additionally, this pre-engineered platform significantly reduces build time, an attractive feature for buyers seeking quality without sacrificing time.

Over the years, the Damen Group has expanded its yachting portfolio, introducing products such as the Yacht Support range in 2008 and the explorer and expedition range, known as SeaXplorer, in 2015. In 2019, all of Damen Group's yachting products were consolidated under the Damen Yachting division.

Amels is globally recognized as one of the most esteemed luxury yacht builders. Their unwavering commitment to quality, speed of construction, and exceptional reputation ensures Amels yachts remain consistently sought after in both the sales and charter markets.

Notable Deliveries and Models

The majority of Amels yachts delivered to date fall under the semi-custom Amels Limited Editions range. The largest Amels built to date is the Amels 272. The superyacht Here Comes The Sun, originally 83m in length (extended to 89m in 2021), stands as the largest unit in terms of size and volume delivered within the Limited Editions range.

The Amels Limited Editions classics, no longer in production, consisted of six models: Amels 180, Amels 200, Amels 206, Amels 220, Amels 242, and the Amels 272. In 2019, Damen Yachting introduced a new Limited Editions model, the Amels 60, followed by another addition in 2022, the Amels 80. The first Amels 60, named Come Together, was delivered in 2022, with the first Amels 80 scheduled for delivery in 2025.

Among Amels' full-custom projects are notable vessels like the easily recognizable 82m Ilona, 78m Montkaj, 76m Boadicea, 74m Lady E, and the 61m Calypso.

Amels' Shipbuilding Expertise

Amels stands out as one of the select Northern European shipyards specializing in high-end motor yachts. The superyachts they deliver are either semi-custom or full-custom projects. The semi-custom option is based on Amels' renowned Limited Editions model range.

Amels also excels in delivering full-custom projects, tailored to the client's unique vision, resulting in one-of-a-kind superyachts. These Amels yachts are crafted with steel hulls and adhere to the highest building standards and latest regulations, reflecting the Dutch shipyard's dedication to excellence.

**Design Excellence and Collaborations

For the original Amels Limited Editions range, Amels collaborated with the renowned British yacht designer Tim Heywood, responsible for crafting the exterior lines. In the new Limited Editions series, Damen Yachting engaged Norwegian superyacht designer Espen Øino, who also lent his creative touch to the exterior designs of the 120m Project Signature and the Amels 78m Full Custom.

For both interior and exterior aesthetics, Amels enlisted various renowned yacht designers, either directly or at the behest of clients, to create stylish custom yachts. These designers include Terence Disdale, Winch Design, Donald Starkey, Michael Leach, Bannenberg & Rowell, Jack Hargrave, and Diana Yacht Design.
