Shipyard History

Established in 1978 by Frans Heesen in Oss, The Netherlands, Heesen Yachts pioneered the use of aluminum in yacht hulls, marking a historic milestone in Dutch shipbuilding. Since then, the company has risen to prominence as a global leader in designing, engineering, and crafting high-performance motor yachts. In 1992, Heesen expanded its portfolio to include the construction of traditional displacement yachts, featuring steel hulls. Today, Heesen Yachts continues to deliver superyachts ranging from 30 to 80 meters in length and beyond.

The current fleet encompasses a diverse range of vessels, including aluminum, steel, displacement, semi-displacement, and the innovative fast displacement (FDHF) designs developed in collaboration with Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Heesen Yachts proudly holds membership in the Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss).

A Journey of Performance and Design

In 1988, Heesen made a global impact with Octopussy, a 38-metre yacht reaching over 50 knots, establishing the company as a leader in high-speed luxury yachts. Over the following decades, Heesen expanded its expertise, building steel displacement yachts like Achiever in 1992, introducing long-range capabilities, and launching the world’s largest sport fisherman, Obsessions, in 1996. Each milestone reinforced Heesen’s reputation for blending engineering excellence with bold design.

Expanding Horizons

The shipyard’s growth mirrors its ambition. The construction of a new 85-metre dry dock in 2016 enabled the production of larger, more sophisticated yachts, while continued collaborations with renowned designers such as Omega Architects, Winch Design, Espen Oeino, and Reymond Langton have resulted in unique, high-performance vessels like Sparta, Lusine, and Ultra G.

With over 45 years of history, Heesen Yachts remains at the forefront of superyacht innovation. The shipyard continues to deliver both semi-custom and fully bespoke projects, shaping the future of luxury yachting.
